HASWELL, Benjamin married Frankey.... 1818 Feb 16

Confederate soldier William B. HASWELL (1835 TN-1862 AL) was son of Benj. HASWELL, but by second wife Rebecca BOWMAN, married in Greene Co. TN Mar 1 1823. That family is censused 1850 in Washington Co TN under "Rebecca Haswell." The daughters married locally; sons John Riley Haswell and William B. Haswell moved to Dade Co. GA and Jackson Co AL respectively by 1860.

Would like to know what info might tie Benjamin Haswell to Frankey SIMMONS, if that was his Knox County first wife, or any court records or such about him. I have not found Benjamin in any census or tax lists anywhere, but presume him to be the same person mustered in Aug 1814 in Orange Co NC 1st Regt (War of 1812 detached militia), then enlisted in 4th US Inf Regt, 9 Sep 1814, then deserted from Ft. Hawkins (Macon, GA) 13 Mar 1816. Descendents ascribe a Cherokee connection through Rebecca, but an enrollment request was rejected for lack of proof, and in fact they never knew Benjamin's name.

Thanks if you can provide any addition information on his life story.

Absent any documentation on "Frankey" entries purporting her to be a "Simmons," it would appear that Benjamin Haswell's marriage has been confused with "Benjamin REILEY" married 05 DEC 1859 "Francis ('Franky') SIMMONS" b: 1838.
