John Newton Wacaster is my Great Great Grandfather. He was born in North Carolina in 1839 to George Washington Wacaster and Mary Ann Williams Wacaster. He married Fanny Queen in McDowell County NC on 28 Jan 1860. They had three children Samantha Ann Queen Wilson (1861-1883), Marcus West Queen (1867-1948), Unknown Queen/Wacaster (1870- ). John Newton enlisted in the Confederate Army, Company K, 1st North Carolina Cavalry Regiment, 9th State Troops on 25 June 1861. He was mustered out on 21 Oct 1862 (amputated right foot). In September or October 1864John Newtonenlisted in Company A, 3rd Regiment North Carolina Mounted Infantry. He was mustered out on August 8, 1865. Based on the Widow's Pension filed by Fanny in 1890, John Newton died in 1879 in Tennesse. I am looking for any additiional information regarding John Newton and/or Fanny that anyone might have. What exactly happened to John Newton after the late 1860's? Various family members of the Wacaster family moved back and forth between North Carolina and Carter County Tennessee from the 1860's - 1880's. John Newton may have lived with them. He may have even changed his name and identy. Did John Newton Wacaster live in Carter County? Did he marry and have a family? Did he die in Carter County in 1879? Is he buried there? Any hel is appreciated.
